Remapping Debate
There's a cat photo at the end
I think I’ve discovered a new source of energy. It has the potential to be more powerful than fossil fuels, solar, or wind. To harness it would be to harness the fundamental forces of nature that power the hearts of stars. It’s volatile, unpredictable, but more contains more energy than anything humans have encountered thus far.
Or are all kittens this energetic?

Calliope is rocket fuel wrapped in fur. I was up in the middle of the night trying to contain her destructive zoomies, while also trying to placate our resident cat, Bonnie, who, shall we say, is not happy. So I’m a bit sleep deprived as I write this.
Remapping Debate
Last year I drew several cartoons written by New York attorney Craig Gurian for his policy reporting website, Remapping Debate. Craig had previously worked with Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Matt Davies during Remapping Debate’s first iteration. Matt was unable to work with Craig again, and recommended me. While we only worked together sporadically last year, Craig plans to have more regular collaborations this year. I drew my first Remapping Debate toon for 2026 this past week, and will hopefully be illustrating more of Craig’s idea as the year progresses.
We’re not alone

Being a cartoonist and illustrator means I’m often alone. I’m usually sequestered in my office, locked in on a cartoon or illustration, a favorite film score and noise-canceling headphones blocking out the rest of the world. If I do interact with someone (other than my wife) during the workday it’s often through email, text, or, occasionally, Zoom.
I’m an introvert and have primarily inattentive ADHD; I’m used to be alone and in my head. But lately — as you may have noticed — I’ve been in my head a bit too much.
We’re social creatures, as my wife constantly reminds me. Whether we’re seeking company for fun, or seeking community to remind us that we’re not alone when witnessing the horrors wrought by the fascist regime, we all do need other people. This past week I’ve had to remind myself, and be reminded, that I can’t just live in my own head. I’ve had to get out of my house, be with friends old and new. I’ve had to have fun. I’ve had to talk about the shit the Trump regime is forcing on us.
I’ve had to be with people.
I’d venture to guess that there are plenty of people feeling alone right now. And plenty of people wishing they could do more in the face of authoritarianism. My advice to you is to go find your people. Don’t be alone. They want us to feel alone. But we’re not alone.
We’re in this together.

Very good collaboration with Craig Gurian, and cartoon from last year.
Yes, we need community, now more than ever.
Thanks, Kevin! Calliope is so cute!
