It’s another double post, because it’s been yet another busy week.
There’s trouble a’brewing at the Centers for Disease Control. The head of the agency was fired and replaced with a MAGA moron. Officials are leaving. Restrictions have been placed on the Covid vaccine. And at the center: Brainworm Bobby, Jr. and his not-dead-yet overlord, TACO Don.
Robert F. Kennedy the Lesser shouldn’t be anywhere near our nation’s health policies. He’s an anti-science kook who will get people killed. He is to healthcare what Trump is to the nation and world at large: a festering cancer that will eat us from the inside.
And like Trump, RFK Jr. doesn’t see the damage he’s causing. His prognosis is that the country will become healthier under MAGA than its ever been. Yet Kennedy’s quest to dissect America’s vaccine safeguards in his Quixotic quest to cure autism* and other neurodivergent conditions may well be a ticking time bomb. We’re less than five years past the pandemic, and we saw how devastating a viral outbreak can be without a vaccine to protect us.
(*And autism is not a disease. It’s a condition brought about by genetics that may be influenced by other environmental factors. Vaccines do not cause autism. There’s no cure to autism and, despite the crap spouted by RFK, autistic people have value.)
Last week’s Pepperspective cartoon focused on the Trump administration’s purchase of 10 percent of Intel’s shares, giving the government — and TACO Don — massive control over the computer chip maker’s business. Kinda seems to be at odds with the decades-long Republican mantra about keeping government out of businesses. In fact, a strong, centralized, authoritarian government nationalizing a business to control the means of production sounds a little … Soviet?
